Introducing Bethany—a gentle and resilient 14-year-old cat with a heart full of love and a story that speaks to the power of compassion.
Bethany came into the care of Maneki Neko Cat Rescue in April 2022 after a heartbreaking surrender to a regional pound. Her previous owners, devastated, were no longer able to afford the urgent veterinary treatment she required after a suspected snake bite. Sadly, the bite impacted her pancreas, triggering the onset of diabetes.
We were honoured to welcome Bethany into our care and ensure she received the specialist support she so urgently needed. With the help of expert veterinarians and the incredible team at Animal Diabetes Australia, Bethany began her journey toward recovery. She was fitted with a Freestyle Libre glucose sensor—the same technology used by humans—which allowed for real-time, daily blood glucose monitoring through an app. It was a game-changer in managing her condition.
The road to stabilisation was long and complex. It took months of careful monitoring, countless vet visits, and adjustments to both diet and medication to get her diabetes under control. But thanks to the tireless efforts of her medical team—and the patience and devotion of two extraordinary foster carers—Bethany’s condition gradually improved.

After six months of dedicated care, her insulin needs have now been reduced to a minimum, and her diabetes is finally under control. Throughout it all, Bethany has remained gentle and affectionate, soaking up the love and warmth of those around her.
Now that her health is stable, Bethany is ready to find her forever home. At 14 and with ongoing medical needs, she may be overlooked—but we believe there is someone out there with a big heart and a warm lap who will see the beautiful soul that we do.
Until that day comes, Bethany continues to thrive in foster care, surrounded by love and comfort. She is adored—and she deserves nothing less.
